Music Policy and Performance Release
The Union Coffee House is dedicated to providing a venue for original acoustic music. No ‘covers’ are allowed here, which means that the artists that perform here may only play their own compositions, and not songs created and copyrighted by anyone else, unless, of course, the song is in the Public Domain.
The Union Coffee House does not pay license fees to any Performing Rights Organization (PRO) at this time, including BMI, ASCAP or SESAC. We respect the good work they do on behalf of the artists affiliated with them.
It is our understanding that a songwriter may perform his/her copyrighted work wherever they so choose. We wish to make it perfectly clear that by performing here the artist is granting the audience the right to listen to his/her music in return for what we all hope are a generous amount of tips and CD sales. There will be no further compensation from any performance rights agency for this performance.
Artist statement:
I am performing at the Union Coffee House of my own free will. I represent and warrant that I am the sole owner of all rights, including copyrights, of all the material I perform at the Union Coffee House. I hope to receive a generous amount of tips from the audience, and perhaps sell some CDs or merchandise. I will not be registering this performance with any PRO, and understand that there will be no further compensation for the performance of my songs from any performance rights organization, even if I am affiliated with one.
I respect the Union Coffee House for their efforts to provide a venue for original music and their dedication to adhering to the copyright act. To that end, if I play any music that I do not own the copyright to I understand that it will be against the music policy of the Union Coffee House and that I (not the coffee house) will be liable for any copyright licensing fees that arise from my performance.
